"There isn’t a sector called ‘culture’, there's no sector called ‘the arts’. It is who we are. We are our culture, we are our language. It is the most fundamental thing as human beings."

Simon McBurney

Since 1983, our spirit of collaborative curiosity, connectivity and internationalism has fuelled our work. For audiences, emerging artists and young people, we believe that these values are more vital than ever. As we enter our fifth decade, help us to reach more audiences and communities worldwide

We do not approach our work with answers. Instead, we begin with questions and seek to find how an idea speaks to us; as a collective, as human beings, at this moment.

The journey to create a new Complicité show is long; often years of sustained research, discussion and exploration. From this process – messy, rigorous and unpredictable – something begins to take shape. A performance that doesn’t just tell a story, but invites the audience to create the work with us.

We do not attempt to stage the unstageable because it is difficult. We do it because it challenges us to go beyond ourselves. And for us, that is where theatre truly begins.

A new Complicité show isn’t just a devised play: it’s a theatrical event… a ticket to another world.” Time Out

We believe that access to art is essential for everyone, but this is under threat like never before.

Alongside our work across art forms, we want to continue to inspire and support the next generation of storytellers by sharing our creative practice, depth of thought and willingness to do things differently; through our learning & creative engagement and artist development programmes.

Now, more than ever, we need to strengthen and foster connections across divides and borders and in the face of adversity; it is through storytelling and performance that we come together to understand each other and the world around us.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your help.

Data and Prospecting

As a fundraising organisation, we undertake in-house research and from time to time and engage specialist agencies such as Prospecting for Gold to gather information about donors from publicly available sources.

Supporters will always have the right to opt out of this processing. We may also carry out research using publicly available information to identify individuals who may have an affinity with our cause but with whom we are not already in touch. This may include people connected to our current major supporters, trustees or other lead volunteers. We also use publicly available sources to carry out due diligence on donors in line with the charity’s Gift Acceptance Policy and to meet money laundering regulations.

This research helps us to understand more about supporters as individuals so we can focus conversations we have with them about fundraising and volunteering in the most effective way, and ensure that we provide them with an experience as a donor or potential donor which is appropriate for them.  We shall be relying on legitimate interest to conduct this research.

If you would like more information, or would prefer us not to use your data in this way, please email us at email@complicite.org or give us a call on 020 7485 7700.
