PAUSE programme Open Letter

8 Aug 2025

We share and encourage you to sign an open letter to the French government and relevant institutions, calling for an urgent resumption of evacuations from Gaza through the PAUSE programme.

An artist we are currently working with, a 30-year-old writer, educator and mother, is approved for evacuation along with her husband and their two young children through the PAUSE programme.

We tell the story of our colleague and her family as one example of the individuals and families who have been treated so cruelly.

Each has their own story. Each is important.

For all of them, we call upon the French Government to honour its simple promise to our Palestinian colleagues: to offer sanctuary and a chance at life.

Your voice matters.

The PAUSE programme supports scientists and artists in exile by facilitating their hosting in higher education and research institutions or cultural institutions. It also conducts advocacy activities for the defence of academic and artistic freedom.

A number of scientists and artists in Gaza have been approved for evacuation to France through this programme, however the programme is currently suspended.
