Grief Chorus Round 2: Call for participants
We invite you to join us for a series of free voice and singing workshops exploring responses to grief through song.
ABOUT GRIEF CHORUS ROUND 2
Over eight weeks in early 2024, we are asking the questions: How do we find joy in processing grief through sound and song? What are the musical elements of loss and grief?
We are inviting participants to come together to explore a range of vocal and breath exercises, and learn to sing together as a group, before finding songs and music that relate to the ideas of grief and joy. This participatory project is primarily aimed at residents of Brent to explore responses of grief through music and sound. Over 8 weeks through structured play and a framework of working from and responding to the body, the chorus will start to dig into how we respond to grief as humans.
The project, led by Theatre Director David Ashley, will take place across 8 evening sessions and two weekends in January, February and March 2024 in which participants will be guided through an exploration of their vocal response as a group to form a ‘Grief Chorus’.
The project will culminate in an informal sharing of work followed by a conversation over food with friends and family on Saturday 9 March.
The workshops will include movements that can be modified for anybody. We welcome participants with limited mobility and are happy to talk about how we can support any access needs.
“I expected to sing and also I wanted to explore my own experience and feelings towards the pandemic as well as hear about other people’s. I expected to create an artistic project collaboratively and that is exactly what we did. The project met my expectations, but in an unexpected way. Due to the nature of working with non performers, we approached the subject of grief in lots of different ways and with a lot of joy, which was refreshing, it also felt like a really safe space where I could express myself.”
