Complicité nominated for International Award at 2024 Stage Awards
We are delighted to have been nominated for the International Award at the 2024 Stage Awards for our adaptation of Nobel prize-winning author Olga Tokarczuk’s part thriller, part comedy, part blistering poetic manifesto for the rights of animals and the environment, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.
In 2022, we assembled a pan-European raft of co-producers and created our ★★★★★ ‘masterpiece’ (Trouw), featuring a cast from across Europe. It has since reached more than 78,000 people across more than 10 countries, described by one audience member as ‘the most refined piece of storytelling I’ve seen in years’.
Exploring the themes of borders and nationalism, our first production to tour internationally since Brexit demonstrated our fervent commitment to and belief in internationalism. This is a spirit that has fuelled Complicité’s ethos and collaboration across countries and continents since 1983.
In the UK Complicité Associates, including actors from the production, worked with schools in Brent with a high proportion of students with English as an additional language, creating original pieces of theatre in more than 10 different languages.
The company worked with Panthea to provide surtitles in a range of languages across the tour, including Polish-surtitled performances in the UK aimed at reaching Polish speakers.
