Our teaching workshops offer an insight into our working processes. Large-scale lecture demonstrations, post-show talks, intimate workshops and residencies have taken place all over the world with people of varying interests, abilities and backgrounds from professionals to students and young people within and without the theatre community.

Commedia dell’Arte is traditionally performed in half-masks; at its core is improvised, physical comedy. During the fifteenth century, Commedia performers originated archetypal characters with extraordinary verbal, comic and acrobatic virtuosity.

Today these skills are almost lost, but the masks themselves still possess the power to reveal great insights into human nature: our instincts, our passions and our imperfections. From beneath the mask, jealousy, rage, lust and wonder explode uninhibited and with vital force.

In this six day workshop, we will explore half-masks, Commedia characters, and the basic Commedia situations, seeking a Human Comedy for our own times.
