Information for Promoters and Venues

Company structure
Complicite produces the work of actor/director Simon McBurney. Each production is cast according to its content, although some company members have worked on more than one Complicite show. The company does not have a permanent group of creatives, actors or technicians.

Touring
There is no regular touring schedule and the gaps between tours vary. It is not always possible to see a show before booking it. We try to book the tours ten to twelve months in advance.

The company tends to travel with large sets and a lot of technical equipment. The numbers of actors varies from seven to 20. The number of technicians is usually 10. There are usually two administrative staff on the road.

Venue requirements
The minimum stage area is rarely less than 12m x 12m.
Because we use a lot of projection we often require an unusually deep stage, up to 18m. Fixed points may be needed for flying sets and/or performers. Open air venues are not usually suitable. It is nearly always necessary for the set to cross the iron / fire curtain.

Performances
A standard fit-up schedule would be two days for the fit-up followed by two days for technical rehearsal with a performance on the evening of the fourth day. The minimum number of performances is two but a minimum of three is preferable. We never perform a matinee on the first or last performance day. We strike and get out directly after the final performance.

Financial matters
Fee rates are show specific and available on request to the Producer. For international touring in addition to the fee, promoters are required to cover the cost of:

Recce visit by the production manager plus one other member of the team;
Freight transportation and freight insurance;
Contribution to cost of technical equipment hired from the UK;
Surtitle system where necessary;
Music and image usage rights;
Writer's royalty where appropriate;
International return flights for company members and local transport where necessary;
Accommodation in minimum 3* rated single hotel rooms;
Per diems in local currency equivalent to the sterling rate requested by the company where necessary;
Visas and work permits where necessary.
